ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a complete medical system that treats and diagnoses disease. Acupuncture has been practiced in China and other Asian countries for over 3000 years. Asian countries have long understood and used acupuncture to treat and cure a variety of ailments. Chinese medical theory believes that when there is an “imbalance” within the body disease will arise such as pain, respiratory disorders, emotional disorders, and digestive disorders. This imbalance is an imbalance of energy or “Qi”. Qi is the vital energy within our body which gives function to our organs. Qi is transported throughout our bodies through meridians or channels. Acupuncture is the insertion of needles at specific points along the meridians to help restore balance and allow the Qi to flow properly. According to Chinese medicine, only when a person is in balance can optimum health occur. Acupuncture is painless and relaxing. The needles used for acupuncture are so fine that their insertion is barely noticeable. At Master Lu’s Health Center, we only use sterile disposable needles with each treatment to protect our patient’s health. Studies done by the National Institutes of Health have shown acupuncture to be highly effective in the treatment of low back pain, headache, menstrual cramps, nausea and substance abuse. Studies have also shown that acupuncture releases natural chemicals, neurotransmitters, and other hormones in the body to assist with self healing. The World Health Organization has recognized over 40 health conditions that acupuncture is effective for including: • Low back pain • Chronic headaches • Allergies • Smoking cessation • Insomnia • Depression • Asthma • Pain management
