Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise and internal martial art. It originated in China and has been practiced world wide to improve health and wellness.

Tai Chi is done slowly and is very low impact. Tai Chi is a sequence of movements that will help you improve your balance, flexibility, coordination, and focus. Studies have shown that Tai Chi will help prevent falls among seniors by 50%.

When the Tai Chi class starts all the students are together to practice the warm up exercises, basics, and Tai Chi form or sequence.   If it is you first time you are welcome to stand in the front of the class so you can follow the instructor.

You may feel confused at the beginning. Don’t worry about being confused. Overtime you will be able to learn the form.   When the group part of the class is over we recommend you to stay so an instructor can teach you step by step. Each time you come to class you can add onto the Tai Chi form until you have learned it in its entirety.

You can wear something that is loose that you can move around in. Wear some exercise shoes that are comfortable for you.

Tai Chi is a sequence of movements that is called a form. To learn the entire form depending how much you practice will take around 9 months to a year. After that then you can learn to master the form.

Tai Chi is a lifetime practice. You will continue to learn new aspects of the Tai Chi form when you practice. The important thing is to practice and get regular exercise.

There are five main styles of Tai Chi: Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun, Wu hao styles. At Master Lu’s Health Center we teach the Old Yang Style Tai Chi. It has 108 movements total. The style taught at Master Lu’s Health is an older form of Tai Chi.

Tai Chi is for all ages. It is especially suitable for older adults. Tai Chi will improve health and wellness. It will also help you to reduce your stress. We have classes for all ages and abilities.   If you don’t have any experience with martial arts, that is okay.   All ages and abilities are welcome to come and learn Tai Chi.

  • improves organ function

There are many other health benefits associated with Tai Chi.  There have been several studies that have shown Tai Chi to very beneficial for senior citizens and those with chronic health conditions. Tai Chi will help you improve your health.

Yes private lesson are available. You have to schedule them individually and make arrangement with Master Lu’s Health Center. During the private lesson you can learn more in detail and refine you practice. Also you are welcome to discuss any philosophical questions about Tai Chi.

Yes, we have Tai Chi DVDS that will supplement your Tai Chi practice. It is still best to attend the class, but if not the DVDs will still help you learn at the comfort of your home.

Master Lu has been practicing Acupuncture and Chinese martial arts for over 40 years. He was one of the first Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Utah. He was trained in Taiwan in both Acupuncture and Chinese martial arts mainly Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Old Yang Style Tai Chi. Master Lu was also twice national champion for full contact fighting in Taiwan.
