At Master Lu’s Health Center in Salt Lake City, we help people everyday with stress and anxiety utilizing Chinese medicine including acupuncture and herbs. Acupuncture has been shown to help reduce stress. We have helped hundreds of people with stress related health conditions.

Stress is part of everyday life. The ancient Chinese physicians realized that stress affects the body physically. In the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic, one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, there are discussions how emotions are connected to our body and if there is an imbalance of emotions then disease will arise. Stress can be an emotion or feeling that will cause physical disease to the body. One definition of stress is “a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension an may be a factor in disease causation.”

Stress can be our body’s way of telling us that we need a break and time to relax from our daily routine. When we don’t listen to our body when we have a lot of stress disease and health problems will arise.

Cortisol is the hormone that is released into our body when there is stress.   It has a relation with the fight or flight response. When we have chronic stress and don’t mange it well, the cortisol levels will become elevated and out of balance. When we have high cortisol levels in our body, we will have problems such as insomnia, weight gain, depression, anxiety, digestive issues and mental illness.

What can we do help manage stress? Acupuncture has been shown to help with stress.   When you get an acupuncture treatment you will feel a relaxed feeling come over your body. Acupuncture will allow the blood to flow better throughout your body and cause you to feel more calm and relaxed. Many times our patients will even fall asleep on the table during an acupuncture treatment.

There have been studies done that acupuncture will act on the brain and release chemicals, hormones, and neurotransmitters to help heal the body. One of the hormones that acupunture will release is cortisol. Acupuncture will allow the cortisol to be at balanced levels to help manage stress. Acupuncture will also release seratonin and dopamine to help with sleep and insomnia.

Another way acupuncture helps with stress is to maintain the heart rate. Acupuncture will help regulate the heart rate. Many times when people are stressed their heart rate gets fast. Acupuncture will help slow down the heart rate and keep it at a rate that will help combat stress.

When you have high stress for very long time, you will begin to feel effects from stress physically. You will have digestive problems, insomnia, heart palpitations, and feel irritable. Acupuncture will help with the physical effects of stress. If you are on medications because of stress, regular acupuncture treatments will help you to reduce your medications and cut them out.

Stress will also cause digestive problems either constipation or diarrhea. Acupuncture will help with stress related digestive problems. Many people will have irritable bowel syndrome which gets worse with stress. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine will help harmonize and manage the stress that will help alleviate the IBS.

Besides acupuncture, exercise is very important to manage and help with stress. Tai Chi is one form of exercise that will reduce stress. Tai Chi will help with calming the mind, stress reduction, flexibility, coordination, and strength. Acupuncture, Tai Chi, and Chinese herbs together will help you manage stress and prevent you from having stress related illnesses.

In Western medicine the arge intestine is responsible for absorbing water from indigestible food and transporting the useless waste material that comes out of the body. This is the second to the last step of the digestive tract in the human body. In Chinese medicine we look at it a bit differently, the large intestine is both an organ and an entity.

The large intestine channel is associated with the emotions of sadness, loss, grief, guilt and stagnation.

These can lead to pathologies that make it difficult for one to go with the flow of everyday life. When these emotions become severe, then the body can show this as constipation, diarrhea and lower abdominal cramping. Imbalance in the lower intestine can also lead to physical weakness, at the same time provoking emotional responses that then produce instant defecation due to the body’s natural reflex reaction.

An imbalance affecting the large intestine are quite frequent in today’s society, cause by excessive stress and constant worry. Chronic stress and worry will stimulate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which is responsible for the heart rate, it increases the intestinal and glands activities and relaxes the sphincter muscles that control the gastrointestinal tract. When the PNS is constantly stimulated, the body is unable to rest and digest. This will lead to some of the aforementioned symptoms, diseases and ailments that trouble the large intestine.

TCM can help a person who is dealing with pathologies of the large intestine safely and naturally. TCM uses several techniques for treating ailments within the body. The most common of these techniques is acupuncture. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, stainless steel solid needles to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Acupuncture works by stimulating the sensory neurons that communicates with the central nervous system (CNS). This helps the body to use it’s self-defense to bring harmony and balance back to itself.

Suffering from gastrointestinal ailments doesn’t have to be a normal part of life. Help is closer then you think. If you or someone you know suffers from Gastrointestinal ailments, come in or call us to see how we can help you live a life free of your Gastrointestinal ailment. www.luhealthcenter.com

Stress is a major factor that may cause disease. According to Chinese medicine, when there is too much stress it will cause imbalance and different health problems will arise.   Stress may cause you to have insomnia, stomach problems, and headaches. The good thing is that it is possible to manage and decrease stress. Here are three methods that you can do to decrease stress.

Deep Breathe and Meditate

As a society we are always rushed and busy through out day and lives. With all of the things that we do each day, it can get stressful. Some people will have more stress than others.   One simple method that will help reduce your stress from the day is to take some time to deep breathe and meditate.

Breathing will help you feel better and calm your mind. As you focus on your breath it will help you relax your mind and feel calm. Deep breathing will put you in more of a meditative state and will reduce your stress.

When you breathe deeply it is important to use your nose to breath. When you breathe in sink your breath down to your belly so your stomach expands out. When you breathe out your belly will come inward. This type of deep breathing will help you feel more relaxed.

Exercise

Exercise will help release different hormones and chemicals such as endorphins. The release of these natural substances in your body will help you feel better and reduce your stress.

Mind body exercises such as Tai Chi will help with reducing stress. Tai Chi will help calm the mind and improve your energy.

Go out and exercise. It will help you manage your stress.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture will help you reduce stress and anxiety. It will calm your mind and allow you to better manage stress. Acupuncture will act on the brain and release different chemicals, neurotransmitters, and hormones. These natural substances that your brain releases will reduce your stress and calm your mind.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine has been shown to treat many different health conditions.  It is a complete medical system for diagnosing and treating disease.  One area that acupuncture has been shown to help with is substance abuse.

Here at Master Lu’s Health Center in Salt Lake city, we have been utilizing acupuncture and Chinese medicine to treat addictions. With the increase of opioid addictions in Utah, acupuncture could a great compliment and alternative method for helping you or any of your family members who may be struggling with addiction.

How does acupuncture work with addictions?

Acupuncture will help decrease the cravings, detoxification, emotional problems, and any withdrawl symptoms.  Acupuncture will help you balance your body to stimulate your body’s self- healing abilities.  It will bring balance back into you body to allow your body to self-heal.  Biomedical research has shown that acupuncture will stimulate the brain to release different chemicals, neurotransmitters, and hormones such as endorphines.  Because acupuncture will act on the brain it is effective for helping with emotional problems that may accompany addictions.

We have seen it many times where someone with substance abuse problems will go in and out of treatment centers.  They need more treatment care outside of the treatments centers.  Treatment centers or rehab centers have their place.  However, combining the rehab and treatment centers with acupuncture treatment will greatly enhance the effectiveness to help people with their addictions.

Tai Chi is one of the oldest forms of exercise practiced around the world. It was originated in China, and up to this date millions of people practice Tai Chi all around the world. One of the great benefits of Tai Chi is that it will improve you health and wellness.

Paul Brennan’s translation of Master Chu Min Yi’s book Tai Chi Boxing Photographed written in 1929 said this statement about Tai Chi and health cultivation:

Boxing arts are essentially a form of physical education, and so health cultivation is naturally a major emphasis. However, this is not represented well by the hard labor of external stylists, and only Taiji Boxing really has the capacity for health cultivation. Regardless of weak or strong, old or young, all can practice it. It is best for us to be able to develop our bodies uniformly, complementing the regular physiological processes within our bodies. Because strenuous exercise does not conform to these processes, it is typically rendered counterproductive.

Hence the movements in Taiji Boxing are unusually delicate. With each movement, the whole body is in motion, and thus no part of the body gets harmfully overworked. Furthermore, because the movements are gentle and nimble, they can regulate the temperament and cultivate one’s character, and because they conform perfectly to physiological processes, they can develop the body uniformly. While practicing, you do not need to put forth undue effort, and so even if you are old or ill, it is not difficult to do. Therefore the claim that it “prevents illness and prolongs life” is truly not a bunch of empty words.

Grandmaster Yin Chian Ho said: “Tai Chi is practiced not only to maintain the body, but also to prevent or remove invisible sickness. Where drugs may be ineffectual , Tai Chi may control sickness. The body and mind together look after the health in accordance with principles of physiology and hygiene.”

As we can see from older teachers, Tai Chi has always been a way for health cultivation.

Some of the many ways Tai Chi will help you as you practice includes the following:

Harvard medical school has said that Tai Chi has been known for “meditation in motion”, but it may be also be known for “medication in motion.” It will heal the body both physically and mentally.

Modern research has shown that Tai Chi has been good for many different health conditions:

All ages and skill levels can practice Tai Chi.   Tai Chi will help you feel more energized, balance, and vitality. The more you practice Tai Chi deeper your appreciation you will feel and the benefits will be great.

We highly encourage you wherever you are to incorporate Tai Chi within your daily exercise regime. If you never have done Tai Chi before it is never too late to start.
